Joseph Bruce Ismay (December 12th, - October 17th, ) was a First Class passenger of the RMS Titanic and the managing director of White Star Line.

Early life[]
He was the eldest son of Thomas Henry Ismay and Margaret Bruce (daughter of Luke Bruce). Thomas Ismay was a senior partner in the firm of Ismay, Imrie and company and founder of the White Star Line. The family lived in Dawpool, Cheshire. He was a father of 4.
Bruce Ismay was educated at Elstree School and at Harrow. When he left Harrow he was tutored in France for a year before being apprenticed to Thomas Ismay's office for four years. He then went on a one year tour of the world and upon his return was posted to New York where he worked at the White Star Line office for a further year. At the end of that period, he was appointed the company agent in New York.
In , Ismay married Julia Florence Schieffelin (eldest daughter of George R. Schieffelin of New York) and together they had three sons and two daughters.

Joseph Bruce Ismay (;[1] 12 December [2] – 17 October ) was an English businessman who served as chairman and managing director of the White Star Line.[3] He was the highest-ranking White Star official to survive the sinking of the company's flagshipRMSTitanic.
Early life
[edit]Ismay was born in Crosby, Lancashire. He was the son of Thomas Henry Ismay (7 January – 23 November ) and Margaret Bruce (13 April – 9 April ), daughter of ship-owner Luke Bruce.[2] Thomas Ismay was the senior partner in Ismay, Imrie and Company and the founder of the White Star Line.[a][4]
